Vintage Noritake Harlequin Demitasse/Expresso Cups
These beautiful cups and saucers have been around for almost a century. The backstamp on these was introduced in the US market in 1918, but the maroon vs green color indicates that these were probably produced closer to 1925.
My guess is that there were 2 more cups in the set, another black and another green.
What makes this set more unique than most is the scalloped edges on the saucers. These are quite uncommon, the more common version is a completely round smoothed edge saucer. I have not seen any other sets like this and only one single cup. These beauties seem to be quite rare and they have survived for longer than most of us will.
The black cup has one chip all of the other pieces are in excellent condition. Please see all of the photos and note that these are hand painted and that there is paint transfer on the rims of the bottoms of the saucers.
