This beautiful hand-carved shell cameo necklace dates from the 1930s. Made of 1/20 12k Gold Filled. The cameo is framed by a handmade wire frame that has been shaped and textured and includes four prongs holding the cameo itself. The frame is very nicely detailed, and so is the carving. The date is based on the style of hair and features of the woman depicted. This is not a mass-produced imitation. It is an authentic hand-carved shell cameo, likely from Italy.
The pendant measures approximately 1 3/16 tall, including the built-in custom bail. It is 13/16 at the widest point. The pendant is marked 1/20 12l on the reverse. It has a partial maker's mark REC .
Completing the necklace is a delicate but strong rope chain, 18 inches long and 1 mm thick. It is marked 14k 20 for 1/20 14k gold filled.
