This is an engraving by Nicolas de Launay, created in 1778, after a gouache work by the Swedish artist Niclas Lafrensen the Younger (also known as Nicolas Lavreince).

Companion Piece: Le Billet Doux is known to have a pendant scene titled Qu'en dit l'Abbé? (What does the Abbot say?), which also depicts a Rococo scene of gallant interaction.
