1977 CLOSE ENCOUNTERS Original Half Sheet Movie Poster / 22x28 Inches / Folded

Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” is considered a classic in science fiction cinema. This 22x28 inch poster (known as a ‘Half Sheet’) was printed on heavy cardstock instead of the lighter paper used for the 21x47 posters. Theater owners could order them from the National Screen Service who printed almost all the advertising for movies released in the United States. The NSS number 770181 is located in both upper corners and indicates this was the 181st movie in 1977 that the NSS printed advertising for. Half sheets were sent to the few theaters who ordered them rolled in a cardboard tube. This poster was never meant to be folded but one of its previous owners decided to fold it to save space and created heavy creases (see photos). There are some other slight defects including a circular crease in the bottom right corner and some discolorations and pencil writing on the back (see photos).
