Pair of Extremely Rare Antique Georgian Bristol Blue Cruets/Bottles, Circa Late 18th/Early 19th Centuries. I researched everywhere and could not find another set (or single) like these anywhere. So rare! Beautiful mouth-blown leaded glass in electric cobalt blue with gilt appliqué of floral garlands & swags in the manner of James Giles. Folded, rolled rims with well-fitting original globe stoppers, featuring a gilt stripe around their equators, perfectly complimenting the cruets' appliqué. This stunning pair is in exceptionally fine condition: both cruets & stoppers are free of chips, cracks or "fleabites"; gilt shows no signs of rubbing/wear. Insides are very clean (were they ever used?). Smooth, polished pontil. Approximately 5.5" tall (with stopper in place); 1.75" diameter. Being hand-made/mouth-blown, the overall height with the stoppers varies by about 1/4". Bottles also serve as beautiful vases for petit bouquets. These beauties would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Although Bristol Blue glass has been made in Bristol, England since the 17th century, it enjoyed a golden age from the 1770's until the 1820's, when the quality & beauty of the glass swiftly gained popularity. Over sixty glass houses were established in Bristol, producing over 50% of the bottles and window glass produced in Britain, as well as supplying the large export demands to the newly liberated North American States.
