The "color" of Caran Dash is based on the "Ostwalt" hue ring advocated by a scientist who won the Nobel Chemist, Ostwalt, and is created by 3-digit color numbers and gray scales (different shades of gray with different concentrations from white to black). The 8 pieces in subtle colors are made of microbead lacquer to create a silky and luxurious design.
