The product is a starter-sized plant with an approximate 4-inch-diameter root zone. The plant will be a minimum of 6 to 8 inches tall. It will not have buds or blooms on arrival. Starter-sized plants are intended for a gardener to plant and grow to their mature size.

  • Agave americana, or Century Plant, is native to Mexico and has been an economic staple for decades. Though highly valued for their sugars, they also have immense ornamental value as a bold focal piece. Its a myth that Agaves flower just once per Century. They are long-lived and will grow for decades before producing the large flower spike from the center of the plant that signals the plant has reached the end of life, and new Agave pups will soon sprout up around the base.
  • This plant has an impressive presence and stature with attractive gray-toned blue-green lance-like leaf fronds that are long, broad, and curved, with sharply serrated edges and hard spiked tips. Agaves mature at a striking 8 ft x 8 ft, require very little water, and will tolerate heat conditions that are not survivable for most other plants.
  • Care: Plant Agave in coarse, very well-draining soil in a full sun location. Water sparingly until well established. Plants are very drought-tolerant, so mature plants seldom need supplemental irrigation. They are also very self-sufficient and seldom need fertilizer. A single application of a good-quality, slow-release fertilizer is generally all that is needed. Consider mature size when selecting the permanent planting location.
  • Indoor Growing: They can adapt to indoor conditions but require porous, very well-draining media, the full spectrum of bright direct light, warm temps, and dry air.
  • Climate: Dragon Fruit is a tropical plant recommended for growing outdoors in Zones 9, 10, 11. Cold protection from frost and freezing is recommended in all Zones.
