Tyrannosaurus rex was a colossal land predator, with the largest known specimen, 'Sue', measuring 12.8 meters (42 feet) and weighing between 5.4 to 6.8 metric tons (6 to 7.5 tons). While larger than the Jurassic Allosaurus, it was slightly smaller than the Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus. T. rex had a short, muscular neck with an S-shaped curve, long hind limbs, and a heavy, long tail with over forty vertebrae. Its skeleton featured hollow bones for weight reduction. The largest T. rex skulls reached 1.5 meters (5 feet), with a wide rear, narrow snout, and massive, pneumatized bones. The upper jaw's U-shape allowed for a powerful bite, surpassing other non-tyrannosaurids.
