Triceratops prorsus, the most abundant horned dinosaur of the Cretaceous era and the largest ceratopsian, was one of the last of its kind to go extinct. Known as the 'three-horned face', this herbivore was primarily preyed upon by Tyrannosaurus rex. It likely fed on cycads and low-lying plants, which it could efficiently grind with its cheek teeth. These creatures probably lived in large groups and hatched from eggs, forming the majority of the herbivore population towards the end of the Cretaceous period. Triceratops boasted a 6-foot-long skull with three defensive horns and a bone frill that served both muscle attachment and predator protection. Its head, featuring large eyes, was nearly a third the length of its body, making it the largest ever seen on land. Despite its toothless beak, Triceratops possessed numerous cheek teeth and powerful jaws. It moved on four sturdy legs with hoof-like claws, had a stocky body, and a short tail. Its thick, bumpy hide offered protection against predators, many of which were likely T-rex. While Triceratops skulls are common in fossil records, complete skeletons are rare, with many specimens bearing combat damage. The first Triceratops remains were discovered in 1887 in Colorado, USA.
