Because this ground is applied directly to a rigid Hardbord panel rather than mounted paper, the surface behaves differently from traditional watercolor substrates. It captures vibrant color, supports controlled washes, and allows artists to build endless glazes or lift color back to white for clean highlights and adjustments. Since pigment interacts at the surface of the clay and mineral ground rather than sinking into paper fibers, watercolor washes can appear naturally bright and luminous. Aquabord withstands repeated washes, glazing, and lifting without surface pilling or swelling. The rigid, warp resistant Hardbord core stays perfectly flat under heavy water application and requires no stretching, taping, or mounting. Artists can paint edge to edge without tape borders, and the panel remains completely stable during detailed work. The durable, portable design makes Aquabord ideal for both studio use and plein air watercolor painting. Once the artwork is complete, the panel can be sealed to allow watercolor or gouache art to be displayed without glass, creating a clean and modern presentation. Each panel is protected with Archiva Seal to help prevent Support Induced Discoloration.
