In cases of a power outage, the battery backup will back up the time and alarm settings up to one week. Per the User Guide, the LED display will not show during a power failure, but the clock will still be running and keeping proper time until the power is restored. So, in other words, the clock will be blacked out when the power is out, however when the power is restored, you will not need to reset your times. 9 Volt battery required to use the battery backup feature.
