The water purification requirements for irrigation are less stringent than those for drinking water, thanks to the natural filtration mechanisms in fruits and vegetables. This allows irrigation to draw from a wider range of resources than our precious groundwater sources. A growing practice is the reuse of gray water and treated sewage effluent (TSE) for irrigation.
