Vintage clear label under glass (LUG) apothecary bottle from the turn of the 20th century. It originally contained Tincture of Ferric Chloride, a 20% alcoholic solution of iron chloride. It was used topically an astringent and hemostatic agent, and orally in small amounts as a tonic for dyspepsia. This is a tincture-style bottle with a ground glass thumbprint style stopper (which is loose). The bottle was made by Fay and Scheuler Label Co of St. Louis. It is marked with a patent date of March 6, 1884, but these bottles were made through the early 1910's. The bottle is about 3 1/2 inches square and stands about 10 1/4 inch tall. It shows some manufacturing bubbles in the glass, but there are no fleabites, chips or cracks. The label is black and white with gold trim - there is some discoloration of the label as seen in the pictures, but there are no defects in the cover glass. Overall, the bottle is in very good used vintage condition.
